The DC Teaching Fellows Program is a new initiative launched by the District of Columbia Public Schools to attract mid-career professionals to the field of teaching. The DC Teaching Fellows Program consists of four components: recruitment, selection, training, and support.

Upon acceptance into the DC Teaching Fellows Program, the Fellows participate in intense summer training consisting of workshops focusing on teaching methodologies and practices. During the school year, Fellows will be provided with a support model which includes the following key components: 1) a university partnership to take classes for certification and a master's degree; 2) mentors to work with Fellows at their school site; 3) monthly meetings for Fellows to share best practices and common concerns; and 4) a newsletter with regular updates of opportunities and upcoming events.

Incentives include: $5,000 for summer training, $7,000 education award for tuition towards completion of teaching certification and/or Master's degree, University partnership specifically designed for DC Teaching Fellows to gain full certification and work towards a Master's degree, Student Federal Perkins Loan Cancellation, Bank of America New Mortgage Program for Teachers, HUD Teacher Next Door Program, up to a $3,000 signing bonus, $250 voucher for school supplies, and up to $500 reimbursement on moving expenses.
