Alana Black joined the Alliance as a temporary employee in August 2006 and was hired as a permanent employee that November. As the advocacy and communications assistant, she assists with the writing of newsletter articles, distribution of press releases, and copyediting of Alliance publications. Black also works extensively on matters pertaining to the Campaign for High School Equity, an unprecedented partnership of nine of the nation’s major organizations representing communities of color and the Alliance. As an undergraduate at Elon University, Black served as a tutor at the college’s writing center. She has also worked in the communications departments of the Association for Childhood Education International in Olney, MD and the Nicholas Albery Foundation in London. Black holds a BA in English with a concentration in creative writing.
