Visit School Matters to download your state’s high schools’ report card. Contact the Parent Teacher Association or professional organizations for educators find out if they sponsor state lobby initiatives.  If so, attend and support lobby initiatives focused on educating state elected officials about the need for stronger high schools. Contact professional organizations for educators to find out if they sponsor federal lobby initiatives.  If so, attend and support lobby initiatives focused on educating your Congressional representatives about the need for stronger high schools.
Research best practices and incorporate techniques into the high school or classroom setting. If there are not enough library, computer, and/or textbook resources in your school, ask your state legislators and chief school officer to seek more support for your high school and others like it. Click to locate your representatives and school officers. Ask your Congressional representatives to increase federal funding support for high schools.
Visit schools and districts that have adopted or are undertaking significant high school reforms.

Connect with an existing or ask the governor to establish a “P-20” Council that coordinates state education from pre-kindergarten through graduate education.

Visit the Alliance for Excellent Education to sign up for updates about national high school reform initiatives and Congressional action alerts.

Pursue professional development opportunities that incorporate new thinking about high school curriculum and instruction.
