The Washington Post reports that thanks to the tireless efforts of the King Center Imaging Project, nearly 200,000 documents connected with the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. are now included in a new online archive that became available on Monday, the national holiday that honored the slain civil rights leader.

Estimated number of children affected if California Governor Jerry Brown's plan to scrap pre-K and transitional kindergarten programs is enacted: 160,000.

Transitional kindergarten is a grade level created when former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed legislation that raised the starting age for kindergarten in the state of California. Now, according to the Huffington Post, Governor Brown is seeking to close an estimated $9.2 billion budget deficit for 2012-2013 with a mix of temporary tax increases and spending cuts to social services and education including the transitional program that served children too young to meet the starting age of kindergarten. The governor's plan would impact an estimated 40,000 children eligible for transitional kindergarten in fall of 2012 and about 120,000 kids when the law takes full effect in fall 2014.

Number of U.S K-12 teachers who live in a household that qualifies as the nation's richest "one-percent": 59,362.

Based on a income diagram compiled by the New York Times, that is only 0.9 percent of all K-12 teachers in the country. It is also estimated that the majority of these teachers are do not earn such high income on their own but, rather, qualify as the wealthiest one percent through marriage to individuals with more lucrative professions.
