Stats That Stick: August 10, 2012

These are some of the stickiest stats we have ever seen, as evidenced by the fact that we couldn’t get them off of our hands until Friday. We hope you’ll enjoy!

DOUBLE STICKY STAT!

Texas’ on-time high school graduation rate in 2011: 85.9 percent.

Number of Texas students meeting the state’s ACT math and verbal “college readiness” standards in 2010: less than 50%.

In a disheartening pairing of statistics this week, we learned that the Texas high school graduation rate has never been higher but students in the state are not graduating prepared for college. The Associated Press via Education Week and The Texas Tribune have more.

Number of digital resources in Nebraska’s new virtual library: 20,000.

Teachers and students will now have access to a new, free tool in Nebraska. Video, audio, and interactive programs are just some of the materials available. Education Week has more.

Percentage of students who “reverse transferred” between 2005-2011: 14.

Education Sector alerted us to this report from the National Student Clearinghouse that tracked students’ college enrollments from 2005 to 2011. Their findings were surprising, 14 percent of students reverse transferred or moved from four-year to two-year academic institutions.
