Lauren Wilson is a biology teacher at Battle Mountain High School in Eagle County School District, CO. As a “master teacher,” Wilson spends 20 percent of her day actively teaching. The other 80 percent of her day is spent working with other teachers in a staff development capacity, where they analyze school data from state-mandated assessments and transform data into information that can be used at a classroom level to impact student achievement. Ms. Wilson also utilizes the data from the school’s Professional Practices rubric (based on Charlotte Danielson’s work) to improve teacher instructional practices with the intent of improving student achievement. Ms. Wilson earned a bachelor’s of science degree in marine biology from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington, and she holds a master’s degree in secondary education, specializing in curriculum and instruction from Arizona State University.
