Lynne Newsome is an education consultant with Shaw University and the public school districts of Washington, DC, and Prince Georges County, MD.

As a veteran educator with more than 30 years experience in reading education, Newsome works on a variety of projects to accelerate minority student achievement. For half her career she was a reading and language arts teacher at the elementary and secondary levels; for half she served as a reading specialist. For fourteen years, Newsome served as the primary resource to the Howard County Public School District in Columbia, MD, to advance the academic achievement of children of color, children of poverty, and English language learners. During that time, she created and implemented a number of programs which helped students meet and exceed state standards for reading and math.

In 2001, Newsome was honored by the Maryland State Department of Education with the AIMMS Award (Achievement Initiatives for Maryland's Minority Students).
