The Alliance is seeking a senior policy associate who will serve as an essential part of the policy team. He/she will serve as a content lead on various policy issues and manage activities related to “digging deep” on issues and relating that knowledge to support the organization’s advocacy efforts. Policy issues include topics such as a wide range of school improvement efforts, accountability, teacher training and practice, and technology. Much of the Alliance’s policy work is strongly aligned to federal and state policy so an understanding of Congress and the administration is important. This position is highly collaborative and would include activities such as researching specific policy areas, writing publications, convening of expert/advisory groups, and coordinating related events. 

The senior legislative associate, under the supervision of the vice president for federal advocacy, will be responsible for managing the Alliance for Excellent Education’s legislative and advocacy efforts. S/he will work closely with the other members of the federal advocacy department and the policy department along with other Alliance staff to advance the Alliance’s policy agenda in Congress, with the U.S. Department of Education, the White House, and relevant education and civil rights organizations.

The director of federal advocacy, under the supervision of the vice president for federal advocacy, will be responsible for managing the Alliance for Excellent Education’s legislative and advocacy efforts. S/he will work closely with the other members of the federal advocacy department and the policy department along with other Alliance staff to advance the Alliance’s policy agenda in Congress, with the U.S. Department of Education, the White House, and relevant education and civil rights organizations.

The intern will work closely with all members of the policy staff in Alliance efforts and will:

- Assist staff by conducting legislative research, developing policy fact sheets, tracking federal legislation, and attending congressional hearings and briefings.
- Provide staff with support in research and analysis of various topics, organizations, and key players in the field.
- Assist in the development of case studies of promising practices in education.
- Attend conferences, briefings, and forums as a representative of the Alliance.
- Assist in the preparation of Alliance publications and events.
- Keep staff abreast of trends in education reform.
- Provide any other support to the president and staff as needed.
